A successful plastic surgeon, Danny Maccabee (Adam Sandler) is traumatised by marriage after almost getting married to a woman who was going to marry him for the wrong reasons. But he quickly spots a silver lining as he is able to meet women and have a string of one night stands by feigning an unhappy marriage. Everything changes however, when he falls in love for real the second time in his life, this time to a girl named Palmer (Brooklyn Decker). Fearful of telling her the whole truth, Danny enlists the help of his office manager Katherine Murphy (Jennifer Aniston) to keep up the facade.
