Crap-in-a-hat...it's HOT! August's way of saying goodbye I suppose. Either that, or the Weather Wizard is up to some shenanigans.
Did anybody used to watch the original Jonny Quest cartoons? It was absolutely my favorite when I was a kid. I understand that they made more modern ones, but for some reason, they weren't exactly my cup of tea.
I used to have a tiny little crush on Race Bannon, but later my fancy turned to Doctor Benton Quest. I simply adore his self-confidence...not to mention arrogance. It suddenly occured to me, watching television the other day, that the guy they have in the Dos Equis beer commercials would be PERFECT to play Doctor Quest if they ever made a live-action movie. He has that air of superiority that is simply breathtaking.
I get a little strange watching tv sometimes.
A Heck of a Weekend
Whew! Nothing like a little bit of marching and beer drinking, not to mention absolutely PERFECT weather, to make for a lovely weekend. We went to the National Muster in Westbrook, Ct, and marched 45th out of 70 Corps! And we were the ONLY ones who had beer on tap in our tent. Needless to say, we were QUITE popular with most of the other corps.
Incidentally, it was also International Read a Comic Book in Public day, so I naturally brought several of my nice trades along to read, for when I wasn't marching or drinking beer. I got a couple of snickers, but also a fair amount of interest, and one guy from another corp saw me reading a Green Lantern book and immediately started a conversation about the Green Lantern Movie, and how stoked he was about it. He is actually more of a Hawkman fan, so we had a lovely discussion about Blackest Night and Brightest day.
Gosharootie, it was fabulous. I hope that YOU all had an equally lovely weekend. Of course it's Monday now.
Bummer.
But, to put me back into a good mood, here's a nice ass shot of Hal.
Not only showing off his manly buttocks, but getting hit in the head as well! A two-fer!

Read Comics in Public!
Apparently tomorrow is International Read Comics in Public Day...or something. Quite frankly I think that one should read one's comics in public EVERY day! With Pride! Of course, I have also been known to wear a Green Lantern ring to work.
Tomorrow, I shall be headed down to the shore, and lovely Westbrook, for the National Muster, so there will be one HELL of an audience. I Am Bringing Comics with me. And libations. And my corset.
I hope that you all have a lovely weekend. A Literary weekend.

Thursday's Reviews of Wednesday's Comics
Well, that was a rather nice week. No Green Lantern however, which makes me sad. And apparently, no Green Lantern NEXT week either. Which makes me doubly sad.
Oh well.
Gotham City Sirens #15. Remind me to never mess with Poison Ivy. She's been seduced by this alien plant guy, and conned into helping him convert the Earth, while Selina and Harley are doing their level best to connect with her AND save the planet. It's not going too well...at least at first, but darned if Ivy doesn't eventually see the light. Primarily due to Harley, but hey, that's what friends are for. Let's just say that she...deals with the plant alien. Nastily. The art doesn't enthrall me, but I do like the writing.
Brightest Day: Green Arrow#3. Ummm...you remember last issue, when someone shot Ollie right in the forehead with a pointy stick? Well, he's saved by some guy dressed up in medieval garb called Galahad, who dunks him into the pond in the middle of the forest, and somehow, this saves him. I don't understand it either, and apparently neither does Ollie, because he's having the hardest time trying to believe all that is happening. I would have to say that the Life Entity is working on this one.
We do have some interesting flashbacks to Ollie's childhood, and the serial philandering of his Father, and his Father's encounter with the new proprietor of Queen Industries, so there is some background into HER story. So it's all pretty interesting, and the arts not bad, and it will all tie in with Brightest Day somehow. I'm not in love, but it's not terrible.
Justice League of America #48. This seems to wrap up the crossover with the JSA, and all of the trouble that Alan Scott has been having with the Starheart. Well...it wraps up SOME of the trouble. Doctor Midnight, and Mister Terrific use SCIENCE to come up with a solution, and they use Power Girl's brain AND her superspeed along with Supergirl's to whip up some contraption to counteract the shenanigans that the Starheart was getting up to. Oh, and they have to be careful to keep Jade away from Obsidian. And the Life Entity starts throwing around mysterious clues some more. But hey, Kyle's in it! And Alan is awesome of course, which goes without saying. Not perfect, but gosh, there were certainly a lot of nice little moments, so I liked it.
Justice League:Generation Lost #8. Well, naturally our hapless bunch got captured by Checkmate, but thanks to a little freezing action from Ice, and some really fabulous bluffing and heroics from the new Rocket Red, they do manage to bust out. Oh, and Fire blows her cover, so Jaime figures, what the heck, and busts out of his too. Booster is the only smart one in the bunch and doesn't show off his identity. And Capt. Shinypants busts down a wall and rescues them.
So they are off in one of the old embassies, licking their wounds, and Ice is having another existential meltdown. Man, she's whiney. I love Ice, I really do...but not this version. Fire meanwhile is having a tender moment with Gavril, the new Rocket Red, who got busted up pretty badly, but is busy joking about it. This is the most tender that I've seen Bea act in a long while, and if they are hinting at a budding romance between the two, I would be ALL for it. Because I'm a sap.
Booster is still acting like the brains, which seems to be confusing the rest of them. Bea refuses his offer of a shoulder to cry on, and goes into one of the unoccupied rooms only to find out that it IS occupied!
Oops.
Except for Ice, this is great.
Actually I have a theory as to why Ice is spending so much time moping, and it doesn't have anything to do with coming back from the dead. She just misses Guy that's all. Yes...that's it.
Superman: Secret Origin #6. Ahhh, nothing like a little Gary Frank artwork to cheer me up. I swear this is a bit late coming out, but goshdarnit, it was worth it. We have Lois's miserable father showing up and taking over the Daily Planet at gunpoint, Lex's machinations have come to fruition, and Superman has been exposed as a filthy alien. Except that he's the only one trying to help people from the soldiers and Lex, and unlike the denizens of the Marvel Universe, the people of Metropolis do eventually notice this. Superman uses his brains (and a little heat vision) to neutralize the kryptonite on whatshisname, and beats the paranoid army types, while Lois and Jimmy and Perry cheer him on. Along with the REST of the people of Metropolis. Oh, and Lex has a tantrum.
Danged good stuff. Danged good!
Time Masters: Vanishing Point #2. Does every book that I'm reading have a colon and a subtitle? It sure seems that way.
We have Rip hanging out with Conan...er Claw as they are lost in time and space, while Hal and Superman are being real jerks to Booster, as they fight some apparent bad guys. Booster is handling it fairly well, all things considered. And we get to see flashbacks of when Rip was a little kid, which is always nice. Pretty artwork, and a decent story. And the final page is a hoot, because it shows that perhaps Hal and Superman shouldn't have been quite so rude to Booster.
HAW!
Wonder Woman #602. I'm still a little bit on the fence with this new plotline, and lord knows I miss Gail Simone, but this wasn't...terrible. In this new reality, Diana runs off and tries to rescue a small clump of Amazons, and ends up talking to a Goddess, and kicks some serious butt. It's fairly light on characterization, but there is a lot of violence, which is always nice. And she takes off the jacket, to reveal that her bodice is being held up with a lot of...ribbons. Man, it must take her a LONG time to get dressed in the mornings!
But I still miss Hal. Except in Time Masters where he's being a douchebag. But in a very Hal sort of way.
Oh well.

Oh My Goodness
So...today I'm going through invoices, and spot one that is in the name of a Mister Waller. Being the consumate geek, I immediately started thinking of Amanda Waller. And then for some peculiar reason, I started thinking about Amanda Waller's kids. She DOES have kids, right?
Have we ever SEEN these children? How old are they and are they boys or girls or a combination? And...most importantly...shouldn't there be some sort of explanation as to why they aren't THE most amazing kids on the planet?
Seriously, with Amanda "The Wall" Waller for a mother, they HAVE to be extraordinary. If they ever teamed them up with Sin or Milagro or Iris or Jai, the Titans would simply have to retire. I would have added Lian to that list, but hey.
Talk about an interesting book!

Arrggghh!
Egad, another Tuesday is at our throats.
Bleh.
On the other hand, the temperature, not to mention the humidity has dropped considerably, and I'm a happy camper. I LOVE Fall! Everyone is moaning about the end of summer, but not me.
Gad, I'm irritating.
But getting back to comics. Since I work in a Tire Store, I thought that THIS would make the perfect screen saver. They already think that I'm nuts, so it is possible that I'm just confirming their suspicions.
However, the thought of white-walled truck tires DOES appeal to me.

Who Is the Mysterious Collector?
Oh you know, the odd little figure that freed Hector Hammond, and seem to be having a fine old time collecting the various Color entities. The odd little person, has a green chain construct around one ankle, and is dressed in rags, but from what he or she has let fall, seems to have been around with the Guardians right from the beginning, and also seems to have an agenda of some sort.
I have a theory.
I think it's Sayd.
In the latest Green Lantern, that's not Sayd holding up Larfleeze's chair, ut an orange construct of her. When Hal asks where she is, Larfleeze looks shifty and says that she is otherwise occupied, or words to that effect.
The chain would also make a certain amount of sense, since she is indentured to Larfleeze, I can see her constructing the chain HERSELF, which also makes sense since it is a green construct. Just to remind her of her predicament, and possibly to provide some motivation.
I can also understand that Sayd is personally pretty peeved at the Guardians. First they kicked her and Ganthet out of Oa, but then she and Ganthet were holding hands on Odym and starting up the Blue Corps, and having a rather nice time of it, until the Guardians stabbed the two of them in the back by siccing Larfleeze on them in a monumentally treacherous move. And finally, she ends up being Larfleeze's virtual slave until who knows when. So yes, I can understand her being quite pissed.
What she may be planning to do with the various Entities, I have NO clue. Maybe she's just trying to depower the bunch of them. Maybe she's just looking for a bit of payback against the Guardians. I would say that she definitely has some plans for the Greed entity, if it will get Larfleeze off of her back...usually quite literally.
What do YOU think?

Playing Hooky
I am taking some time off today and NOT marching in the Winsted parade. Yes it's flat, and yes, it's actually a rather lovely day for a change, but it's almost three miles long, and I'm not really that thrilled about the distance. I'm an old lady for Pete's sake! So I'm taking my son Chris, and we're going to go out to Spring park and have a picnic, and feed the giant killer goldfish in the pond.
Yeah, it's that kind of day.
Yeah, it's that kind of day.
It's Friday
It's Friday, and quite frankly, I'm pooped. So I don't have anything particularly mindboggling for you all today.
Well...except this perhaps.
God, I miss this book. And this particular issue was SO full of fabulous stuff. The giant green fist and flightful and harmful penguins for a start. It's nice that Jaime has been showing up in the new JLI: Generations Lost book, but he really hasn't had a whole lot to do there...at least not yet. I'm also firmly convinced that they NEED to have a Green Lantern appearance...preferably Guy. I mean really how can you have the JLI and NOT have Guy?
And speaking of Guy...his patting out the sparks in his hair is just...too perfect.
Have a nice weekend!

Review...hoo...hoos.
Ok, I'm not exactly what I was thinking, when I came up with that title, but it's Thursday, and I had to work late today, and I'm feeling mildly punchy. On to the New Books!
Batman: Streets of Gotham #15. Is...this the end of Two-Face? Probably not, but still...a heck of a story! It's nice to see a henchman stand up for himself.
Brightest Day #8 Well! Deadman and Dove are off to find Green Lantern, while M'Gann and J'onn are teaming up against...whatever the heck it is that is out there. J'onn doesn't want to admit it, but apparently he's NOT the last green Martian! Always nice to see some of Pat Gleason's magnificent artwork.
Meanwhile, things are getting a bit sticky on Hawkworld. Carter is trying to raise an army, because let's face it...that's the sort of thing that he WOULD do. Shiera is busting out and trying to beat the crap out of Hath-Set, and doing a fairly decent job of it, until she runs into Queen Shrike. And aren't we all surprised to find out who SHE is! A decent issue, that moves things along nicely.
Fables #97. Is it me, or has it been a rather long time since the LAST issue of Fables? Anyhoo, Rose Red is still reminiscing about her treatment of Snow, and how unfair it all was, and the image of her dear old mum is enough to get her out of bed, showered, dressed, and loaded for bear. Or for whatever cute woodland creature she may have to face. Clara shows up, which is nice, because I'm rather fond of Clara. Always good.
Green Lantern Corps #51 continus with the Revolt of the Alpha Lanterns. Man, but Hank Henshaw has a mean streak! He manipulates poor Ganthet into operating on the various Alpha Lanterns, in an attempt to return them to their natural selves, which is a bit awkward, because for one thing, Ganthet wasn't even THERE when the Guardians had their brilliant brainstorm, and he's not even sure if it is possible to restore them. When he hesitates, Henshaw just blows them away, and moves onto the next one in line.
Hardcore!
Kyle, John and Soranik are hiding out with the rest of Stel's people, trying to start an insurrection, that seems to pretty much be fizzling out. You can always trust a robot to be pragmatic, I suppose. They are also just about out of Green Lantern juice, so Kyle uses his last little bit to call the ONE Green Lantern that can bail them out of this situation. No, it's not Guy...although that was MY first thought. It's Hannu!! I like Hannu. Boodikka tries to drain his ring, but he doesn't care...because he hardly ever even uses the darn thing anyway! He does manage to bust up her battery though, and it's enough to free her mind from Cyborg Superman. She's dying, but she does restore the power to the other rings.
Oh, and some Qwardian, has plans. Deep plans.
Not Boodikka! I love Boodikka, and I really don't want her to die
Dammit!
Justice Society of America #42. Well, Kyle shows up and says that he's got permission from the blue munchkins to terminate Alan Scott with extreme prejudice, if that is what is necessary to get the Starheart under control again. Needless to say, Jade isn't particulaly thrilled with this little tidbit of news. So, Obsidian cons her into merging with him, and they start busting heads. Oh, and draining Kyle's ring. Man, he's been having a lot of trouble with that lately! It must be because he's not partnered up with Guy anymore.
Heh.
Mikaal is dying without his stone, but Faust Jr., Jay and Wildcat figure out that Alan isn't REALLY there, and they are actually just being held by Dr. Fate. then Midnite runs in and grabs Fate's helmet and all hell breaks lose, and the faux Alan is defeated, sort've. Meanwhile, another Alan is busy fighting with Supergirl and Power Girl, and the rest of the JSA is being attacked by various green constructs.
Jade/Obsidian is taunting Kyle, and he retorts that HE wasn't the one who cheated. This apparently surprises the heck out of Donna, because really what kind of person would cheat on KYLE of all people? Jade still seems to be carrying a bit of a torch for Kyle, but I hope...I REALLY hope, that he sticks with Soranik, who is worth a dozen of Jade.
Exactly what is going on with Alan and the Starheart is not explained, it's a lot of fighting, but presumably will all be explained...next issue. Maybe. Not bad, but not great.
DC Universe: Legacies #4 There really isn't much of a separate story in this issue, unlike the previous ones. You still have that nice blond cop narrating, but it IS mostly a narration, of how the old Mystery Men gave way to the new heroes, and then how the new heroes all wound up with teenaged sidekicks, and how they all met up with the OLD heroes again. It's nice, and nostalgic, but nothing earthshattering.
The second story involves the reunion of Sgt Rock's old team, and how it came about that Rock was killed by the very last bullet fired in WWII. A little bit of irony there!
Not a bad week at all. Nothing outstanding, but nothing terrible. A good average week mostly.

Comics...My Drug of Choice
So on the news last night, there was a report of a rather large Marijuana bust. Naturally, my smartass kids were busy making smartass comments, and trying to appear SOOOO sophisticated, especially when compared to their old fart parents.
I have never really understood the appeal of recreational drugs. I don't like not being in control of my own actions, nor is my life so desperate that I wish to escape it. COMICS are my drugs...and I can always count upon them to deliver, by God!
Need something psychedelic? Just read some old Steranko books...preferably something with Nick Fury. Or Jack Kirby for that matter. Silver Age storylines are FAR more fantastic than anything that cocaine can create. Plus, comics are cheaper in the long run, and you can go back and read them again, and they actually might appreciate in value! It's a win-win situation.
Naturally my kids sighed and rolled their eyes at my naivete...but did grudgingly agree that Batman: The Brave & the Bold IS the crackiest thing on television.
I rest my case. And I'm going to my dealer...er...comic book store right now.

Nothing to Brag about Today
I've used up all my vicarious boasting rights, which is probably a good thing. And it's Tuesday, which is always deadly. So...
Here's a nice picture of Hal's behind. AND he's flying with his legs apart again. He may be pretty and heroic and all, but dammit he's NOT particularly graceful.

Zombie Apocalypse (As Seen in the Movies)
Part One: Not All It's Cracked Up To Be?
90% of the world's population have at one point either wished, or fantasised about experiencing zombie apocalypse. You know what that is. It's the kind of a near future global disaster where people lose all sense of ethics, moral and humanity altogether. All that is left of them are some basic primal instinct, and an awkward gait that screams "Zombieee!!!" from a mile away. In some cases however, they can actually be professional brain-eating sprinters. Needless to say, none of us dream of being a zombie for they're only good at getting their brains blown out. No, we all dream of being one of the survivors.

In some cases however, they can actually be professional brain-eating sprinters. Needless to say, none of us dream of being a zombie for they're only good at getting their brains blown out. No, we all dream of being one of the survivors.
Now why would this ghastly epidemic seep into our imagination, becoming like some sort of a guilty pleasure? In case it didn't get there all by itself, perhaps the idea was put into our heads by films such as George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead [1968], credited as the first zombie movie, or for you casual movie-goers, Shaun of the Dead [2004], Planet Terror [2007] and Zombieland [2009]. As it was seen in these movies, there are actually many benefits from living in a zombie-infested world. Although I wonder what the reality would be like if a zombie apocalypse were to actually happen;
#1 Freebies!
Anytime you see a zombie movie, there will always be at least one scene where the survivors are shown raiding a shopping mall. Isn't this like another fantasy we all have? Every time we go to the shopping mall, there are always a hundred and one things we wish we could just grab or greedily spill into our little shopping carts, but could never afford to do so. Well, with the zombie apocalypse, you will be able to do just that!
What is More Probable: Even if the epidemic is so widespread that malls everywhere will be too understaffed to even hire a single cashier, it is still unlikely that we can just loot them. Just like today's zombie-free world, people flock in shopping malls at every chance they get. It is unlikely that will change, ever. With that being said, one of two things will happen;
- Zombies too will flock in these areas like it's their hunting ground, since that's where their food (human brain) can easily be found.
OR
- There will be a gang of douchebags guarding the entrance to the malls, and make you pay through the nose if you wish to enter. Why? Because there are no nice guys in the post-apocalyptic world. They either get killed, screwed or turned into zombies - hence "No more Mr. Nice Guys".
#2 I'm the King of the World!
Now, we would only feel this way if the zombies involved are the kind that you can outrun while doing a three-legged race with your love interest. It takes them so long to get from point A to point B, you can fire thirty bullets into them before they get close enough for you to smell that Zombie B.O. Nothing makes you feel like you are at the top of the world than standing in the middle of zombie corpses (?) with the wind in your hair, and that wisp of smoke dancing away from the nozzle of your AK-47.
What is More Probable: You would be king of the world, but not for long. In due time, zombies too will evolve in order to survive. Since the slow ones will die from either gunshot or starvation, zombies will eventually learn how to run, drive a vehicle, make traps, fashion a weapon for themselves, etc... It's creepy to even think about it, but it's not entirely impossible that they might have a human farm where they rear... well, humans. Just like how we rear chickens today. *shiver*
If all else fails, they can always learn to survive on anything other than human brain.
#3 A Carefree Lifestyle
It's a very liberating thought to simply forget work, assignments or school and just focus on living, wouldn't it? The current lifestyle we lead is pretty much bland and unexciting; it's all about getting good grades, then a degree and then a job with measly pay, all of which that will cause us to walk around like zombies.
With zombie apocalypse, however, we will only have three things to worry about. One, getting supplies. Two, get a shelter. Three, kill some zombies... Hell yeah!! If it's anything like Zombieland [2009], we can simply live like luxurious nomads; move from one mansion to another, trash hotel rooms like rock stars, the whole nine yards.
What is More Probable: You don't actually think they were going to let us undo two thousand years of civilisation, do you? Anarchism and drifters are frowned upon even today. So in the event of a zombie apocalyse, somewhere there will be a douchebag who wants to restore "order" by enforcing survivors to group together and form a society. We will then be promised of a more "meaningful" life by scoring A's for examinations and contribute to the society by not being a slacker. Eventually we will then find ourselves back to where we were prior to the zombie outbreak; "Working jobs we hate so we can buy [expletive] we don't need", (Tyler Durden, 1999).
Only this time around we will also have zombies to worry about. Bummer.
*End of Part One...
Holy Namedropping, Batman!
And, speaking of Catwoman...I think I may have mentioned at one point that my 21 year old son is working at the Goodspeed Opera House, in Connecticut. The sister theatre, which is the Norma Terris Theatre, is also running a play, starring none other than Orson Bean and Lee Merriweather.
Yes, THAT Lee Merriweather, who starred as Catwoman in the utterly terrible and yet utterly fabulous original Batman movie, back in the sixties. I've watched it numerous times, and I loooove it.
Anyhoo, the Goodspeed crew ended up having dinner with the Chester crew, and Frank and Miss Merriweather got to talking, and he mentioned that he (and I) were big comic fans, and man, the stories started flying. They ended up dancing and flirting outrageously. Frank says that both actors are charming beyond belief, and that she's STILL completely gorgeous. He's not too bad either, so I can understand her flirting.
*sigh*
My son has danced with Catwoman. My life is complete.

Equal Opportunity
As you have all no doubt noticed, I have been on something of a derriere kick lately. I can't imagine what has come over me. But they have all been MALE derrieres.
So...fair is fair. In the interests of being an equal opportunity...er...opportunist, I present this.
Nothing like Catwoman in a catsuit. Batman is there too, but he's always wearing a big blankie around his neck, so we can't even SEE his behind.

Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #1
It's been a whole day and I' STILL swooning. Just look at the cover, for heaven's sake!
Cool eh?
We have Peter Tomasi writing, and I'm happy as a clam, because he proved on Green Lantern Corps that he has a sure ear for Guy, and a happy knack for coming up with great stories. We don't have Pat Gleason, which I am sorry for, because he was just SO very very good, but we do have Fernando Pasarin, who labors mightily and produces some VERY gorgeous pictures. There are lots and lots of Green Lantern backsides, so right off the bat, he shows that he has a firm grasp of the essentials.
We begin with Guy brooding a bit in his quarters on Oa, not to mention a rather nice picture of him on a balcony without a shirt. Or pants. Be still my heart. He's documenting his doubts about his new job with Ganthet and Atrocitus, but gets interrupted, and launches into action in a very Guy sort of way. I LOVE the motorcycle construct, and he certainly does seem to be getting the most out of it.
He finds the bad guys, beats them up, and rescues the hapless scientists and their stolen science stuff. They're kind've whiney about it, but hey.
He then has something of an epiphany out there in space, and hightails it back to the Guardians, where he comes up with the perfect rationale for letting him go wandering around in the uncharted sectors. He makes his pitch, as only Guy can, and much to his astonishment...they go for it!
In the meantime, Sodam Yat has fallen to earth...er, Daxam, and is hidden by some kids, to keep him out of the way of the people looking for him. I imagine they are the same kids he was talking to way back when, so that's nice.
Also meanwhile...underneath Oa, Ganthet is doing a little spelunking, and finds the Book of the Black, complete with Lyssa Drax still trapped in the pages. Ganthet also sees the page that shows Hal and Guy fighting. Exactly why this is supposed to be so momentous, confuses me. This is something that Hal and Guy do every other Tuesday! Anyway, Ganthet and Guy talk a bit about the book and their mission, and the fact that Guy has some HUGE doubts about the whole thing, not to mention that the doesn't trust Atrocitus one inch. Neither does Ganthet, but still, it seems as though the Guardians have always had this certain naive side to their nature.
Atrocitus is hanging ou on Ysmault, and he doesn't trust Guy or Ganthet any further than he can throw them either. He's making a nice wall out of skulls, because that's the sort of thing that Atrocitus would do. He also sends Bleez off to be his eyes and ears, which should be QUITE interesting.
Finally, we end with Guy lounging on the balcony again, although he's finished recording his message. It's probably a wise move on his part, since he does seem to have some doubts that he's going to be making it out of this little adventure in one piece. Interestingly enough, you can see tthe red rage symbol reflected in his eyes, and there is blood on his lip.
Aha!
Who is the message going to be sent to? Possibly Tora, although thanks to Max, they're on the outs at the moment. I would be more inclined to think that he'd send it to Kyle, who is at least one of the few people he can trust unreservedly. I imagine that we will also see who ends up with his recording. Still no clue as to what it is exactly that the three of them are up to...but I'm simply dying to find out.
Oh...and that last page is a doozy!
Twelve Thumbs Up!!

Thursday's Revews of Wednesday's Comics
Not a huge week...but oh, what a lovely lovely one.
Birds of Prey #4. And how the plot thickens. I must admit I was slightly less than enraptured when this whole plot began, but I'm beginning to settle into it now. Thankfully, the White Canary is NOT an aged Sin...to my great relief. In fact, it makes perfect sense who she turns out to be. And we also find out the reason for Savant's shenanigans. Creote is apparently, just along for the ride. The Penguin gets stabby, but he's about to get his...or at least I hope so.
Good stuff. Although...the art was a little on the weird side. I'm not a huge fan of Benes, but at least I'm used to how his stuff looks, and this was apparently by Adriana Melo as well, and it just looked a bit...off.
Booster Gold #35 continues to enchant me. Oh Barda. Oh Scott. Oh Ted. I could read about your adventures forever, and even though it is all in the past, I'm going to dry my tears and enjoy it while I can. Oh, and Ted figures out that Booster is not HIS Booster, because, well...Ted IS smart after all.
And there is this...
...which just warms the little cockles of my heart.
Oh, and there is a Planet Crusher thingie, and Darkstars. Where's a Green Lantern when you NEED one?
And speaking of Green Lanterns.
Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #1 came out, and it...it's as though it was made JUST FOR ME!!! More on this tomorrow, because I can't do it justice in a short review. But let me just say that Green Lantern Butts were both lovingly rendered and plentiful.
Justice League: Generation Lost #7. I admit that I'm enjoying this, even though I must administer the caveat that I STILL can't stand the way that Winick is doing Tora. She just doesn't SOUND right. But still, the bunch has a crazy idea on how to break into Checkmate, which is actually pretty funny...and it works! Too bad they all get caught. And Max Lord gets a bit of a shock when the White Lantern entity shows him what he's supposed to do with his life. I also have to admit that the new Rocket Red is one of my favorite new characters.
JSA All-Stars #9. I think that this was actually out last week, and I just missed it. I'm not all that thrilled with the story, although it does at least show Sandy a little bit. I LIKE Sandy. But what I am really enjoying is the backup story, with Liberty Belle, Hour Man, Icicle and Tigress...because THAT is one heck of a good story, and fun to boot.
Also fun, is the new Thor series, Thor, the Mighty Avenger #3 came out, and it seems to be on a bi-weekly schedule, which is quite marvelous. It's a bit of a reimagining by Roger Landgridge, and the art by Chris Samnee is insanely adorable...and GOOD! This is also the best Thor costume that he's ever had. Well worth picking up.
So...I hope you all enjoyed YOUR comics. Especially Emerald Warriors.

Oh Joy!
It's Wednesday. And not just ANY Wednesday, but the Wednesday which sees the stunning debut of the new Green Lantern book, Emerald Warriors, starring Guy Gardner and Kilowog, and any number of other nice people.
I...I've been waiting for this for THREE MONTHS! So nobody had better get sick or have their car break down or anything for the afternoon, because I have...plans. Green green plans.
Get thee to a Comic Book store!

I Beg to Differ
According to the Internet, Jennifer Lopez has the world's most fabulous behind.
Please.
I admit that I have not given Ms. Lopez's derriere more than a cursory glance. But I HAVE given quite a lot of my time to staring at various Green Lantern behinds, and I would have to say that Katma, Arisia and Soranik would give her a run for her money. Heck, even Brik.
Can J-Lo match...THIS?
I think not!

Another Monday, Another Drawing
This one is from that story with Hal, Guy and Superman in a cave. And although you can't really see much of Guy's butt in this picture...trust me, it's fabulous.
As for Superman's behind, who the heck knows? He's always wearing that fershlugginer cape!

I Appear To have Butts on the Brain
How could that POSSIBLY be? Too much exposure to Green Lantern pulchritude has warped me. But it occurs to me, that Green Lanterns aren't the only ones with fabulous asses. Yesturday, I was astonished to realize that young Wally West had a rather spectacular set of buns.
As for THIS pair...I'm not sure if spectacular can describe it.
Flaunt it, Ted!

More of Flash than Perhaps You Wanted to See
I must have Flashes on the brain or something, because here's yet another Flash picture. Not Barry this time. It's Wally, showing what he's got.
That's something you just don't see every day! Obviously Linda has fairly good taste. But for the Love of God, keep her away from Hal! If she sees HIS magnificent buttocks, there's no telling WHAT she may do!

Reviews!
This was a rather...odd week for me. Picked up some new books that I've never tried before, which is always fun.
Batman Odyssey #2. This...is a mess. A glorious mess. There are flashbacks, Batman being completely incompetent, and lots of explosions, while the plot bounced hither and yon...and I don't care. Firstly, it's by Neal Adams, and there wouldn't even have to be any dialogue, and I'd be drooling over the art. Really, the first page, is a shirtless, maskless Batman, and it took me five minutes before I realized that there were more pages to go, because I was mesmerized.
Secondly, Batman being less than omnipotent always entertains me. He's hearkening back to when he was the rawest of rookies, and I'm enjoying the heck out of it. I'm sure that just about everyone else will be hating this, but I'm loving it.
Brightest Day #7. Well! Deadman certainly does enjoy his cheeseburger. I'm beginning to think that the White Lantern entity has a certain dry sense of humor. Too bad that it's dying, and that it needs the twelve returned heroes and villains to do...stuff, while waiting for its successor. So new stuff is revealed, while new mysteries also abound. Again, I'm enjoying this. And the art seems awfully purty this week.
Jonah Hex #58. This was cool. There is a narrator, and at first I thought that it was the apparent killer from the front page, but it gets more complicated and more interesting the further into this that you go. Every Bullet DOES tell a story, and this is a humdinger. There are twists and turns, and things don't turn out exactly as you might expect, and I'm happy at the end, and that's all that I ask from my comics.
Red Robin #15. I finally broke down and picked this up, after hearing about it, and I have to admit that it's pretty good. The lengths that Tim is willing to go to, are astonishing...and the fact that he's just so smart about it all, makes him even more astonishing. Also, I'm really starting to like Damian, that little scamp. Good stuff.
Secret Six #24. Ok, things are a little peculiar, but GOOD peculiar. All of a sudden our favorite villains are in the old west, and stories from the past are jumping out, and all kinds of interesting things are going on, and really, all they're trying to do is be heroes. Too bad how it all works out. I'm sure that SOMEbody is messing with their heads here, but it's just a heck of a lot of fun. I'm really starting to develop a crush on Deadshot.
The Rage of Thor. This is a one-shot offering by Peter Milligan, with art by Mico Suayan. I don't have a clue who that is, but the art is quite nice. This is an old tale, of the first time that Thor had a hissy fit, and stomped off to live on earth, because he was mad that the dwarves made a doppleganger of him, and that the rest of the Asgardians fell for it. Quite frankly, Odin isn't helping things, because he's a monumental douchebag, but that's part of his schtick after all.
Anyway, Thor goes off to Midgard to sulk, and ends up helping some nice farmers, and finds a girl, and adopts her son, and is apparently having a rather nice life of it. Too bad that Surtur keeps coming back and beating up Asgard, not to mention Odin, who is a little the worse for wear, so Baldur has to go to Midgard and try to get Thor to come back and save their collective butt. He's cranky of course, but he does it. Too bad his girl dies of the plague while he's gone.
Man, all those Asgardian Gods did was drink and fight...which is actually pretty close to the way that the Vikings saw them, so it was a great story.
So, a darned enjoyable week!

Oh Wednesday
How much I love Wednesday. So I am on my way to my beloved comical book store, and fighting off the loathsome heat and humidity along the way.
Bleh.
However, in order to cheer you all up, BEFORE you get your books, I have the following.
Dancing Flash!
He's probably accidentally setting fire to the floor as he's doing this, but by God, it's adorable.

Oh Crap
I don't know if it's news all over, but here in Connecticut some nutcase who was facing some disciplinary action at work, went bonkers and killed eight people, including himself. What is really freaking me out a bit, is that it is just down the road from my Sweet Baboo's place of employment. He saw the South Windsor SWAT team go flying by this morning. Needless to say, people are feeling a bit jumpy.
At my work, the Powers That Be just canned a guy. They're feeling a little jumpy at the moment too! I understand that losing your job is a terrifying prospect...but is it really going to make it better, by shooting at innocent people? Good grief.
I'm going to stick to comics, where the violence may be gratuitous, but it is still harmless in the long run.
Sheesh.

I'm At it Again
I really ought to get a life, but what the heck. Sometimes, this is just too much darned fun.
I rather enjoyed this one. And I STILL like the Red Lantern uniform on Guy. As I recall, Hal looked pretty hot in his too!
